The four-day International Conference on Youth Empowerement: A Cross-Cultural Exchange aims at 1) bringing experts and scholars to present their cutting-edge findings in their endeavored works on youth empowerment in two mornings of plenary sessions, 2) providing students and youth delegates an opportunity to systematically and academically present their studies or field experiences in works on youth empowerment via poster or symposium presentations in two afternoon sessions, and 3) drawing people from diverse cultures to experience socially the power and spirit of cross-cultural learning and exposures via two days of City Tour, agency visits, and a Cultural Night dinner and cultural performance celebration.

International Conference on Youth Empowerment: A Cross-Cultural Exchange

City University of Hong Kong Department of Applied Social Studies has been reputed in our series of highly fruitful student exchanges in the name of Cross-Cultural Learning Programs (upon our winning of two consecutive City University Maximizing Students Learning Awards in 2000 and 2002). Over the past four years, we have sent out hundreds of our undergraduate students to your city or country in the summer for cross-cultural learning and exposures.

Having built such an international network, we organise this Conference to let overseas, mainland and local youths to meet up in Hong Kong for academic and experiential exchanges of ideas, information, and experiences in youth empowerment and related areas. The Conference will be hosted at City University of Hong Kong between 17 and 20 May 2004. At present, about 400 scholars, youth workers and young people from 16 countries will be participating in this event.

The four-day conference aims at:

1) bringing experts and scholars to present their cutting-edge findings in their endeavored works on youth empowerment, 

2) providing students and youth delegates an opportunity to systematically and academically present their studies or field experiences in works on youth empowerment via poster or symposium presentations, and 

3) drawing people from diverse cultures to experience socially the power and spirit of cross-cultural learning and exposures via two days of City Tour, agency visits and a Cultural Night. 

Throughout the Conference, overseas participants will be introduced with the vibrant youths, committed people, and the cultural heritage of the City of Hong Kong. The Conference will be an invaluable opportunity for cultural and intellectual exchanges.
